AJAM brings musical education to the small group setting, in the forward-thinking and innovative style of a “real world” jazz band environment.
Aspiring musicians are placed in dedicated ensembles who work together consistently throughout the period of instruction. Band members will receive group instruction emphasizing the importance of listening and working together, as well as individual coaching with assignments designed specifically for each student. Each ensemble will develop a distinctive style and group sound, build their own repertoire of music, prepare for performances, auditions, or contests, learn to navigate the music business and more. Each band will also have the opportunity to perform throughout the community.
AJAM aspires to be a unique place in jazz education…a place where students who are dedicated to their music will have the opportunity to learn not just about their music, but also what it means to develop as a creative human being.
